I Finished My Corrected Volufiline Run: 8-Week Results by Area (Squalane Carrier This Time)

If you read my first Volufiline post, you already know I spent five weeks unknowingly limiting my own results by mixing it with an oil-free moisturizer. Since Volufiline is oil-soluble, that was a pretty significant mistake, and I said at the end of that post that I was starting over with a proper carrier to see what it could actually do.

That run is done. Eight weeks with 100% Volufiline by Cosmetic Boosters mixed with The Ordinary 100% Plant-Derived Squalane, once daily at night, applied to the same targeted areas as before.

Here's what actually happened.

Why Squalane Results by Area

Castor oil was my first attempt at a proper oil carrier, and it did show results, but it was causing congestion and breakouts. Squalane is lightweight, non-comedogenic, and oil-based, which means it actually lets Volufiline absorb the way it's supposed to.

The only learning curve was figuring out how little you actually need. Too much product doesn't fully absorb, which means it can drip and migrate to areas you didn't intend to treat and with Volufiline, you really want to keep application targeted. Once I dialed back the amount and let it fully absorb before bed, the breakouts stopped and I wasn't second-guessing where it was going.

For anyone with sensitive or acne-prone skin, I'd say squalane is probably the best carrier option out there for this. Castor oil works great if your skin tolerates it, but this one was the right call for me.

I applied it once daily at night only. I like leaving it undisturbed on my skin overnight and not competing with anything else. I did once daily through the full eight weeks, and now that I'm done with the active phase I've dropped to about three nights a week to maintain.

Results by Area

Forehead Lines

This was actually one of the more noticeable areas for me. I felt like it added some volume back to that area, and when I raise my eyebrows the lines look less deep than they did before I started. I'll be honest though: volume alone can only do so much when you've got lines that are already pretty established from expression. Volufiline isn't going to erase them, and anything that truly smooths deep forehead lines is going to require something that actually keeps the muscle from moving, at least for a while.

What I do think it helps with, and this is something I actually care about more than the lines themselves, is keeping that area from looking heavy or hooded. I've noticed it contributes to keeping my brows looking a little more lifted, which helps with the eyelid area. That's something I'm going to keep doing for.

The most effective thing I've found for actual forehead lines though is silicone scar tape, which is a bigger commitment but worth knowing about if lines are your main concern. I have a full post on exactly how I use it here. Volufiline and scar tape together is actually what I do now, and I think they complement each other.

Temples and Upper Cheekbones

Honestly, this is the one. If you're going to try Volufiline anywhere, this is the area I'd point you to first.

I apply it in kind of a sideways V shape, starting at my temple and coming down toward the top of my cheekbone. What I noticed over time was that my smile started looking more even and balanced. I have some facial asymmetry from years of side sleeping, and this area was where I really felt like I could see a difference in terms of overall symmetry. I think adding volume back here does something for the whole face because it lifts the appearance of everything below it, which I'll get to when I talk about smile lines.

This one felt the most worth continuing, and it's one I'll keep doing on my maintenance schedule without question.

Chin

I have small lines that appear on my chin when I smile, and that's the main reason I added this area. Did Volufiline fix them? No, not really. Did it lighten them a little? I think so, just slightly. Nothing dramatic here, and I wouldn't put this on the list as a major selling point. I keep doing it because it takes two seconds to add and I figure it can't hurt, but I wouldn't start a Volufiline routine specifically for chin lines.

Tip of the Nose

This one is extremely subtle and I want to be upfront about that. My nose doesn't tip up or down, it's just kind of straight and points slightly forward. I've always noticed it in my side profile. What I feel like a little bit of Volufiline at the tip does is add a tiny bit of volume there that improves the contour slightly in photos and in the mirror from the side.

Is it life-changing? No. Is it something I notice enough to keep doing? Yes. If you're someone

who has ever been bothered by a nose that loses a little projection or definition, it might be worth adding. Just go in with realistic expectations.

Lips

I have a full dedicated post on this one with way more detail, so I'll link that here, but the short version is that lips were one of my better results. More hydrated, noticeably smoother, naturally plumper without looking overdone. If fuller lips or softer lip lines are something you're after, that post is worth reading. I also talk about what I pair it with there if you want to take it a step further.

Smile Lines

I started applying a small amount to my smile lines a couple weeks into the test, using a brush to place it directly in the line while smiling hard, then very gently rubbing slightly upward above the line with my finger. The important thing here is being deliberate and not letting it migrate downward toward the jaw area.

My honest take is that most of what helped my smile lines came from the cheekbone and temple work, not from applying directly to the lines themselves. Lifting that upper face area does a lot of the heavy lifting. That said, I do think applying directly to the line helps a little with adding some volume right there, it's just subtle. Both things together are better than either one alone.

Under Eyes

I'll be transparent: this wasn't a big result for me. I've seen a lot of people online say the tear trough area was one of their best results with Volufiline, and for some people that clearly is the case. For me personally, I have one eye that has more pronounced volume loss under it from side sleeping on that side, and I didn't see enough of a difference to say this was a great solution.

I'm still looking for the right thing for this area. I've looked into PRF under-eye injections, but the cost and the number of sessions required have me hesitating. For now I'm just keeping my eyes open and genuinely interested in what other people have tried. If you've found something that works well for under-eye lines or hollowing, especially on the more natural end, drop it in the comments because I would really love to know.

A Few Things Worth Knowing Before You Start

Take photos. Put them in your hidden folder if you want, but take them. Use good light, a ring light, natural sunlight, something consistent. Take a few: smiling, not smiling, side profile. You are not going to remember what your face looked like eight weeks ago without them, and the changes with this product are gradual enough that you'll think nothing is happening when it actually is.

Results follow a curve. In my experience you're going to see the first hint of something around weeks 4-6 and the more noticeable changes come closer to week 8. Don't evaluate at week 2 and give up.

If your first run wasn't working, start over. I didn't feel like my original run with the wrong carrier built a base I could build on. I started completely fresh with the new carrier and did the full 8 weeks again. If you're getting inconsistent results, check your carrier first, and if you switch, just start the clock over.

People noticed. Nothing specific anyone could name, just a general "you look good lately" kind of thing. That's honestly the best kind of result because it means it looks natural.

One more thing: make sure you're ordering the right brand. There are so many Volufiline serums out there packaged and marketed to look almost identical, and I accidentally ended up with a completely different one when I reordered. I saw basically no changes during that stretch and was blaming everything else until I figured out what happened. The one I've used for both of my documented runs is 100% Volufiline by Cosmetic Boosters. I'm not saying nothing else works because I haven't tried everything, but this is the only one I can speak to personally, and the ingredient transparency and formulation is what keeps me coming back to it. If you've been consistent and still aren't seeing anything, it might be worth double-checking what you actually have. Full story here.

Final Thoughts

I'm glad I did this correctly. The squalane carrier made a real difference for me, and now that I've done both runs I feel like I actually know what this product can do.

I'm continuing at three nights a week. The temples and cheekbones are the area I'd tell anyone to start with. The forehead and lips rounds it out for me. And for anything I haven't cracked yet, like the under-eye situation, I'm still looking and I'll write about it when I find something worth writing about.

If you want to try it, the products I use are 100% Volufiline by Cosmetic Boosters and The Ordinary Squalane. Start slow on the squalane amount and give it time to absorb fully before you go to sleep.

Volufiline Results FAQ

How long does Volufiline take to work?

In my experience the first subtle signs showed up around weeks four to six, with the most noticeable results closer to week eight. Don't evaluate at week two and call it a failure.

How often should you apply it?

I do once daily at night during the active phase, then dropped to about three nights a week to maintain after eight weeks. Twice a day works for some people but once was the right call for my skin.

What carrier works best?

An oil-based product. Squalane is my current recommendation based on experience, lightweight, non-comedogenic, and it plays well with oil-soluble actives. Avoid water-based gels.

Is it permanent?

No. Results depend on continued use. After 6–8 weeks, most people transition to a maintenance routine of 2–4 times per week.

What mistakes can reduce results?

Using an oil-free carrier, applying inconsistently, switching products mid-test, or expecting filler-level results.

Which brand of Volufiline should I use?

I can only speak to what I've personally tested. The one I've used for both of my documented runs is 100% Volufiline by Cosmetic Boosters. I accidentally ordered a different brand mid-testing and saw a significant drop in results, so brand does seem to matter. Full story on that here.

What areas does Volufiline work best on?

For me personally, temples and upper cheekbones gave the most noticeable results. Lips were a close second. Forehead was consistent. Under eyes were the most disappointing area.

Does Volufiline actually work?

For me, yes, but with two conditions: you need the right carrier oil and you need to give it a full eight weeks. My first run with an oil-free moisturizer gave me inconsistent results. The squalane run was a different experience.
